Travel

Air

For travelling to our wedding, we recommend flying to one of the below airports and hiring a car.

Previously, we have flown into Bordeaux airport and hired a car and found this very easy . Travelling using the auto routes (with tolls) is very convenient.

Hiring a car is the best way of travelling to/from the airport and for getting around the French countryside as public transport is very limited. If you are not hiring a car, we would recommend flying to Bergerac airport and a taxi could be arranged. It could also be possible to fly to Bordeaux and get a train to Bergerac, where a taxi could then be arranged. Airport transfers could also be an option, especially for groups.

The below airports offer flights to/from the UK:

Bergerac        30 minutes from venue
Bordeaux        1 hour, 45 minutes from venue
Toulouse         1 hour, 45 minutes from venue

We have checked flights and listed some options below for each airport.

Bergerac

Bristol to Bergerac (flights operated by Ryanair) flights available Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday

Bournemouth to Bergerac (flights operated by Ryanair) flights available Sunday and Tuesday

London Stansted to Bergerac (flights operated by Ryanair) flights available daily (except Friday)

By Car

For those wishing to drive, there are two options to get to France with your car, a ferry or using the Eurotunnel.

If travelling by Ferry, options include Cherbourg (Poole, Portsmouth), Caen (Portsmouth), St Malo (Portsmouth), Le Havre (Portsmouth) and Roscoff (Plymouth)

If you wish to discuss your travel plans with us or would like any advice, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We will help as much as possible with your plans.

Where to stay?

For those not staying on site:

The venue have recommended a small B&B located only a few minutes away.

Alternatively, there are a number of Airbnb’s located close-by. We love Airbnb and use it all the time, if you need any help or advice please let us know!

Hotels and other rentals are located around the area too.

For those staying on site (as already discussed), we will be in touch soon to provide further information regarding accommodation

What to Do

For those wishing to explore the local area, we can highly recommend exploring the French countryside and we particularly like the Dordogne region to the north of the venue. The local area has fantastic food, wine, vineyards, markets, historic towns, rivers, lakes and castles! For anyone who wants to explore the Dordogne we can highly recommend a fantastic campsite (Le Paradis, James pictured in one of their pools above).

We would also highly recommend visiting the city of Bordeaux, it’s a beautiful city with amazing restaurants and wine!

For those wishing to travel on to other destinations, the airports of Bordeaux and Toulouse have fantastic links to other European destinations.
